PvP in WoW
This page is just a stub (placeholder) at this time. It will be filled out at some point, but there are a bunch of other pages with a higher priority. Look to the left sidebar for your specific class for builds and some PvP notes.
Why PvP?
Why PvP (PLayer Vs Player?) For most of us it's a refreshing change
of pace to fight someone with a brain, rather than the simple AI of
the mobs in the PvE world. There's a whole new strategy involved in
the fight, as well as certain changes in gear and talent requirements
There are rewards to the organized PvP, such as: rep, mounts, gear,
etc., but many of us like the fact that it brings the WoW gameplay
to a higher level.
There is a certain amount of homework involved, too. Unlike the mobs
you face while leveling, PvP, like Raiding, requires certain gear,
an understanding of the other classes and their gear, and
some idea of how real people are likely to react in certain situations.
For example, an AI controlled mod will turn and face you instantly
if you attack it from behind. A player, depending on how distracted
he is, won't. A decent player will also be much better at
escaping.
Honor System
The world of warcraft honor system is the overall method allowing
PvPer's to gain extremely good rewards for doing what they do best,
PvP. Essentially the honor system is a point system, updated immediately,
through which you gain a certain number of points for every time you
kill an enemy faction member.
Obviously some limitations exist, killing the same person too many
times or killing anyone far below your level range results in no points,
that's why running a constantly changing battleground of numerous players
is indeed the best method for gaining honor through simple killing.
Now, beyond just what you gain in terms of points from killing other
players is the amount of *bonus honor* avaliable to you through the
Battlegrounds. Battlegrounds are the instanced PvP raids allowing
you to easily engage other groups of players in strategic warfare,
whether in capture the flag or a simple take and hold system. Doing
these Battlegrounds results in you gaining a certain number of bonus
honor points, these count the same as normal honor points, you simply
gain them through different methods.
Each battleground instance will be started after the required amount
of players from each side have entered the queue. With the
introduction of server battlegroups this means you'll often
be teaming up with playerrs a few servers off rather than simply your
own server's players.
Finally, once you've gained a resonable
amount of honor points you can turn these in at your resident PvP
officers barracks, one is nicely located in Stormwind for alliance
and Orgrimmar for Horde.
Once nice thing about the battlegrounds is that each battleground
has an associated reputation tab, such as stormpike/frostwolf and the
like. This allows you to not only gain honor points for PvP rewards,
but also gain reputation rewards associated with the battlegrounds
faction. Players who've aquired an exalted reputation with all of the
battlegrounds are able to use the title "Justicar" if alliance
and "Conquerer" if horde
