| The Draenei are a mystical light-blessed race, they have a history of conflict with the Sargeras and his minions The Burning Legion. Twenty-Five thousand years ago they lived on the world Argus, they had a magical society and were at that time called "Eredar."
Sargeras, the Destroyer found them however he contacted 3 of the Eredar's most powerful leaders Kil'Jaden, Archimonde, and Velen. He offered them power and knowledge in exchange for joining him. Velen one of the Eredar leaders had a vision of the future and was filled with dread of Sargeras.
Kil'Jaden and Archimonde ignored Velen when he warned them of what he had seen and joined with Sargeras, Velen prayed for help and a being of the race called "Naaru" came to him. It offered to take Velen and any other Eredar who followed him to safety.
Velen gathered all the Eredar who had not joined Sargeras and left with the Naaru, they renamed themselves "Draenei" meaning Exiled Ones in the Eredun language. The Burning Legion chased the Draenei for thousands of years.
The Draenei travelled hundred's of world in their quest to find a planet safe from the Legion, but Sargeras and his minions would give up in their quest to annihilate the Draenei. As the Draenei were running from the Burning Legion the Naaru blessed the Draenei with the power of the Light and told them that there were others who would fight the Legion.
The Draenei eventually settled on Draenor and began to re-build. The Draenei befriended the Orcs and they had a mutual respect of each-other. Kil'Jaeden found the Draenei eventually however and began his corruption of the Orcs.
The Corrupted orcs went into a Bloodlust and slaughtered the Draenei, killing over 80% of the race while the rest fled. The Draenei that survived were affected by the orcs fel powers, many Draenei were turned into "The Broken" or "Lost Ones."
Many of the warped Draenei went insane and turned to madness after losing their previous proud and noble forms. The remaining Draenei left the planet on a dimensional ship and were sabotaged by the Blood Elves thus forcing them into a crash landing on Azeroth, in the Azuremyst Islands. |
