Akil'Zon

akil'zon

Akil’Zon is the second boss of Zul’Aman as well as the eagle avatar, this is of course made evident with his eagle summoning, lightning
attacks, and various other such abilities.

Abilities

Eagle Summoning

Akil’zon will summon eagles every storm of the fight, thankfully they have but a few thousand health and a single attack called Eagle
Swoop that deals around 1500 damage.  Eagles are easy enough to deal with but can possibly overwhelm your raid should you not take care of them correctly.

Static Disruption

An attack spell that targets a random raid member, dealing 3500 damage to them as well as any other nearby players and leaves a debuff that increases nature damage taken by 25%.  This debuff does stack and lasts 20 seconds.

Gust of Wind

Randomly tosses a player into the air, once the player hits the ground 50% of their maximum health is dealt via falling damage.  Priests and Mages can utilize Slowfall or Levitate to deal with this, however both are interruptable by any stray eagles.

Call Lightning

Akil’zon will fire a lightning bolt that hits for somewhere around 3000-4000 damage or so on the primary threat target.

Electrical Storm

Every minute or so Akil’zon will target a random raid member and lift them into the air, creating a large storm cloud around them.  As the storm progresses it will shoot down lightning bolts that hit for an increasing amount of damage every second.

The lightning however will only hit targets not standing in what amounts to the eye of the storm, directly beneath the player, therefore everyone must get beneath the storm cloud as quickly as possible lest they get nuked.

The storm lasts for eight seconds total.

Fight

The main thing to get down for this fight is proper positioning, you’ll want everyone to spread out in a somewhat close circle surrounding Akil’zon.  Players need to be far enough apart to avoid taking massive damage from static disruption, but not so much so that they can’t get together for electrical storm when it’s cast.

Melee DPS and the tank should position themselves at the maximum melee range on Akil’zon, at the very edges of his hitbox, Ranged DPS and healers should simply make certain to be within a fairly close yet not too close distance of the melee.

It’s alright to spread out fairly loosely so long as everyone is on the spot with moving towards the eye of the storm once it appears.  One method of aiding this is to have someone with a timer going for the storm, every 55 or so seconds after a previous storm have them call out to group up in-order to avoid needing to run flat out towards any given player.

Another big obstacle is Akil’zon’s eagles that fly overhead and use eagle swoop throughout the fight, he continually summons these so if left to themselves they will eventually overrun your raid.  To prevent this, have a single ranged DPS, such as a warlock or hunter, kill off the birds whilst still hurting the boss somewhat, DoT’s are very good for this as it allows you to keep up DPS fully on both boss and birds.

Finally, healers will truly be tested this fight as the splash damage of Akil’zon’s various attacks will definitely begin to add up and require more and more mana usage as it presses onwards.  If you have too many people getting hit by various attacks and such or perhaps some overhealing I suggest setting up specific assignments and healer groups.

Be ready for the various abilities and maintain a good formation and this boss should be dropping in no time.
