Molten Core Boss Ragnaros

Ragnaros

The Hardest fight in Molten Core and by far the requires the most preparation.

Ragnaros Abilities

Wrath of Ragnaros: Melee range fire attack that attempts to knock multiple targets back and into the air.

Fireball: Randomly shoots a fireball at someone that knocks him and players near him back.

Fire DoT: The player who Ragnaros is attacking will get hit by a fire DoT.

Melt Weapon: Every time anyone hits ragnaros they suffer durability damage.

Lava Splash: The inner circle of lava around ragnaros will erupt causing damage to anyone nearby.

Magma Blast: If nobody is within melee range of Ragnaros he will randomly blast people for 6000 damage.

Sons of Flame:

These will appear 3 minutes into the fight while ragnaros submerges making him immune. 8 sons will spawn - they have an AoE aura that drains mana so keep them away from mana classes.

Preparation:

For this fight Fire Resistance is everything. If you main-tank doesn't have 300 or more FR this will be extremely hard. You will want at least 2 but better 3 tanks with 250+ FR to take over tanking if the MT dies.

Get a large amount of these items:

Greater Fire Protection Potion : For everyone

Elixir of the Mongoose : For hunters

Greater Arcane Elixir : For Mages

Elemental Sharpening Stone : For Rogues/Warriors

Useful but not required items:

Flask of Distilled Wisdom

Flask of Supreme Power

Flask of the Titans

All Melee classes should have 150 FR unbuffed and everyone else should have 100 or more unbuffed. All Tanks should have over 300 buffed.

The Fight

Make sure that everyone is where they are supposed to be as positioning can win or lose this fight.

Once Ragnaros emerges and the fight start you need to do the following.

Multiple warriors are extremely useful in this fight as ragnaros has a knock back. Priests should shield the tanks before combat and all tanks should take fire protection potions.

All the casters should have everything possible that increases range and should be spread out and accompanied by 2 healers.

When Wrath of Ragnaros goes off if the main tank is knocked back the 2 nd tank will move in and continues in the order of tanks. They will need to be ready to rotate in at any time as failing to do so will wipe you.

Occasionally when the knock back hits ragnaros will spin around and smack a few rogues to death so rogues would be advised to back off when a tank gets knocked back.

Everyone should go all out DPS as soon as possible as this fight is all about short-term burst DPS.

If any tanks should die try to combat resurrect them immediately as they are crucial to this fight, remember that if nobody is in melee range he will start 1-shotting everyone.

If anyone is knocked into the lava they should try and get back onto land as fast as possible. Some areas are simply impossible to get out of though.

Phase 2 - Sons of Flame.

3 minutes after the fight starts Ragnaros will submerge and 8 sons of flame will spawn around him as depicted in the picture. The mages should be assigned a specific order to use frost nova in to control the sons.

Everyone should collapse back into one area with the melee classes keeping the sons off of the mana classes so that you have mana for ragnaros.

Warlocks can banish sons but it is not recommended to banish more then a couple as if it lasts to long ragnaros will pop up and the sons can wipe you.

There are 1 minute and 30 seconds for you to do this before rag re-appears.

One by one drop the sons and move back into position as soon as they are all down and prepare to fight ragnaros again.

Just repeat what you did in Phase 1 and finish Ragnaros off. If another wave of sons comes you will almost always wipe.
