The Big Bad Wolf

Big Bad Wolf
This is one of three possible plays one can go through in the opera house.  When Barnes, the NPC whom starts the event, beings making his speech he gives one of three sets of dialogue, depending on the lines said this will determine what event you face.

This is the dialogue for the Big Bad Wolf:

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this evening’s presentation!

Tonight, things are not what they seem… for tonight your eyes may not be trusted!

Take for instance this quiet elderly woman waiting for a visit from her granddaughter…. Surely there is nothing to fear from this sweet, gray-haired old lady!

But don’t let me pull the wool over your eyes! See for yourself what lies beneath those covers! And now… on with the show!

The big bad wolf encounter is probably one of the most enjoyable and interesting boss fights in the entire dungeon.  It’s essentially based around two different phases, one in which the boss is simply a tank n’ spank like any other, and another wherein one player becomes “Little Red Riding Gnome” and has to run for his or her life.

Basically the entire fight is going to be decided around how well your raid adjusts to whoever becomes Little Red Riding Gnome and works to keep them alive as best as possible, additionally they have to be capable of running well as during this phase the wolf will not attack anyone except for the transformed player.

Big Bad Wolf

This guy isn’t really that much of a big hitter nor does he have much in the way of abilities to augment this low damage, however he is capable of a melee stun and an AoE fear, both possibly allowing him to stack the hurt on whoever he targets.

Terrifying Howl

An AoE fear effect utilized every 20 seconds.  This is a magical effect and can be dispelled by Paladins, Priests, and the shaman’s tremor totem.  First of all this should be dispelled off the main-tank to prevent the boss from running wild, after that any feared healers and so on.

Wide Swipe

This is the melee stun utilized on whoever happens to be primary target at this point, most likely the tank.  When this is used some extra healing should be dropped on whoever happens to be the target so as to prevent them from dropping whilst unable to use defensive abilities/potions.

Little Red Riding Gnome

The main mechanic/effect of the fight comes in the form of having a random raid member transformed into Little Red Riding Hood, a small gnomish girl with a red cloak.  When this affects the player they gain a speed boost of 50% but lose any and all armor/resistances, making them extremely vulnerable.

Once a player has become Little Red Riding Hood the wolf will direct all agro towards that player until twenty seconds have passed and the debuff worn off.  Every thirty seconds a new Little Red Riding Hood is selected, so you have a breather period of ten seconds within which to DPS the boss.

When you are Little Red Riding Hood your main concern is running, don’t cut corners, don’t speed ahead at full power, instead keep yourself at all times directly before the wolf so as to prevent him from cutting corners and getting right onto you.

Have everyone throw any possible HoT’s and quick heals on the targeted player, hopefully keeping them able to avoid instantaneous death should the wolf catch up.  Paladin’s can cast blessing of protection to save the runner if needed, six seconds of invulnerability.

The Fight

Once Barnes’ has introduced the play and begun the encounter, you’ll want your main tank to approach center stage where they’ll start talking to the old lady in the middle.  After a bit of dialogue she’ll transform into the wolf.

At this point your main tank should begin threat generation on the wolf whilst pulling him over to the front right corner of the stage, this is where DPS goes into action and where your off-tank should be.

The reason for bringing the wolf to this corner is to allow whoever the runner happens to be the ability to realize this and start running hopefully before the wolf catches up and eats them.  Should this happen to be any of the melee DPS or possibly even the tank then you’ll have practically no time at all to accomplish this, the wolf being immediately before you.

Even as the wolf chases the runner throughout the stage all tanks/off-tanks and DPS should rush on behind him beating as much damage and for tanks threat into him as possible whilst he’s on the run.

After the debuff wears off or the runner is eaten the Tank should immediately pull the wolf back to his original positioning at the corner of the stage, allowing once more for the best possible running capacity for whoever should become Red Riding Hood this time.

Other

In general this is a very sloppy and undisciplined fight simply for the fact that anyone is capable of becoming Red Riding Hood and therefore you can have any number of possible required running paths whilst everyone else tries to keep up with you.

Should you get it down just right though, or possibly even with a few mistakes, you’ll soon be looted your share of the treasure off the wolfs corpse.
